Luke Eggebratten speaking at ConExpo

Can’t Wait to See You at ConExpo

Every few years, ConExpo brings together the people who keep this industry moving. Owners, operators, managers, and leaders who are building real businesses in a challenging environment. I always walk away from ConExpo energized by the conversations, and this year is especially meaningful for me.

On Wednesday, March 4, from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM in West Hall 225, I’ll be speaking at ConExpo on a topic that comes up in almost every conversation I have with contractors today: employee retention in construction.

This post is not about breaking down the full presentation. That is what the session is for. Instead, I want to share why I’m speaking on this topic, why it matters so much right now, and what I hope you take away if you decide to attend.

Why Employee Retention in Construction Can’t Be Ignored

The construction industry has never been easy, but the last several years have forced many companies to rethink how they operate. Hiring is harder. Expectations are higher. Turnover is expensive. Most contractors feel the pressure, even if they don’t talk about it publicly.

Employee retention in construction is often treated like an HR issue. In reality, it is a leadership issue and a business issue. When experienced employees leave, companies lose efficiency, consistency, and confidence. Jobs take longer. Mistakes happen more often. Owners and managers spend more time putting out fires instead of building systems.

At Phaser Marketing, we work exclusively with construction, excavation, septic, and dirt world companies. We see the same pattern over and over. The companies that struggle most with retention often lack clarity. Expectations are unclear. Growth outpaces structure. Communication breaks down as the company gets bigger.

Retention problems are rarely solved by a single change. They are solved by strengthening the foundation.

Why This Topic Matters to Me

Through building Phaser Marketing, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with construction business owners all over the country. Over the years, I’ve been pulled into countless conversations that had nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with people.

Owners are frustrated by turnover. Leaders are stretched too thin. Good employees are leaving not because they want to, but because the company has outgrown its systems. Those conversations stuck with me.

As Phaser grew, it became clear that marketing alone does not solve these challenges. You can generate leads and grow revenue, but if the internal structure does not support the team doing the work, growth can feel chaotic rather than rewarding.

That is where employee retention comes into play. Not as a buzzword, but as a core part of building a stable, healthy business. The companies that get this right are the ones that can scale without burning out their people or themselves.

Why ConExpo Is the Right Place for This Conversation

ConExpo is one of the few places where contractors step away from the daily grind and look at the bigger picture. It is where ideas are shared, perspectives are challenged, and long-term decisions begin to take shape.

Talking about employee retention in construction at ConExpo makes sense because it affects everything else contractors care about. Safety. Production. Customer experience. Growth. Profitability. Culture.

The session I’m presenting, Foundational Success: 10 Strategies for Employee Retention in the Construction Industry, is built around practical strategies contractors can actually apply. No theory. No hype. Just lessons shaped by real-world experience working with construction businesses at different stages of growth.

What I Hope You Take Away

If you attend the session, my goal is simple. I want you to walk away with clarity.

The strategies I’ll be sharing are not theoretical. They come directly from conversations and observations with some of the top leaders in the construction industry. These are companies that are retaining strong employees, building leadership within their teams, and creating stability in an industry that often feels unpredictable. What they are doing is working.

Retention improves when leadership gets intentional. When expectations are clear. When systems support people instead of relying on them to figure everything out on their own.

You do not need to overhaul your company overnight. You do need to be honest about what is working and what is not. Strong foundations create stable teams, and stable teams build better businesses.

Looking Forward to Seeing You There

I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak at ConExpo and even more grateful for the conversations that happen before and after sessions. Those conversations are where the real value is.

If employee retention has been a challenge in your construction business, I encourage you to stop by West Hall 225 on Wednesday, March 4, from 10:45 to 11:45.

I can’t wait to see you at ConExpo. LFG!!
